Summer Blues

Bright blues are the hottest colour of the season for Spring/Summer this year, and can be worn in so many ways that will give you that catwalk style.

If bright colours scare you or just aren't your thing, try picking up a few cobalt accessories to brighten up a muted outfit. For those of you who are braver with colour, there's plenty to choose from on the high street at the moment. Here are a few of my favourite bits, ranging from the bold to the subtle, all available to buy online.

Silk henley top, £95 Reiss
This top, which is 100% silk, is perfectly light and loose for Summer. The turn-back sleeves and pocket give it just enough detailing to save it from looking too plain, but it remains a simple and chic piece thanks to the high neckline and loose fit. The royal blue shade will look fabulous with a pear of white jeans or shorts for a perfect colour contrast.

Bandeau jumpsuit, £40 ASOS
Jumpsuits and playsuits are ideal for easy dressing this Summer. The peg style legs, cute bandeau top and fabric tie waist make for a girly and pretty jumpsuit. Make like the model in this picture and team with some printed wedges for a dressed-up look that lengthens your legs.

Cowl side dress, £45 Warehouse
Nail two trends in one with this fringe detail dress. The ruched waist creates definition and the draping flatters almost any figure as it skims over any curves. Wear with some pretty flat sandals for day time or dress up with a pair of heels for evening.

Soft blazer, £34.99 River Island
This 3/4 sleeve blazer is so stylish yet so simple, and would look amazing worn with white - as you can see from the white lining this shade of blue compliments it beautifully. Throw it on for a chic daytime look when the sun's not at it's hottest. The perfect addition to a summer lunch outfit.

From left: Peeptoe heel, £49.99 Zara.  Lace up shoe, £35 ASOS. Suede wedged sandals, £45 Topshop

As you can see, there's no reason to not own a pair of blue shoes this season. From heels to flats and sandals, the high street offers a variety of styles in bold shades, meaning you could own a pair for every occasion. It's usually best to keep such a bold colour simple, but as the Topshop sandals show, some gold detailing can add depth to the colour.

From left: Petal belt, £35 Whistles. Clip lock leather satchel, £85 Topshop. 2
2kt gold acquamarine necklace, £100 Marie-Helene De Taillac at Net-a-Porter

Bright blue accessories are the easiest way to get in on this trend. The petal belt from Whistles is also a nod to this season 70's trend. The Topshop satchel is vivid enough to brighten any outfit and make a statement, whereas the Marie-Helene de Taillac necklace adds a small but cute, subtle blue detail.
